Taupō to Tongariro Return Shuttle

The Taupō return shuttle picks you up from Central Taupō and drops you at the Tongariro Alpine Crossing trailhead in Mangatepopo. We will then pick you up in the afternoon for the return journey back to Taupō.

Taupō Shuttle to and from the Tongariro Crossing

This Tongariro Crossing shuttle service picks you up from central Taupo at 5:15am. If you are staying in the town centre, we will collect you directly from your Taupo accommodation. If you are staying outside of our pick up area, we will meet you at the Taupo iSite on Tongariro St for collection.


The journey takes 1h 22 minutes and gets you to Mangatepopo by 7am. This service allows for up to 8 hours to complete the Tongariro Alpine Crossing. It takes most people between 6-8 hours and most people are off the track by 2:30pm.

Pick up and departure time for the return journey in the afternoon is 3:00pm. However, if everyone has finished the track and checked in early, the shuttle back to Taupo will leave early too. Please note that you must be off the track before 3pm - if you are worried about not making it back in time you may like to consider doing our one-way Tongariro Park & Ride option.


We then get you back to Taupo by 4:30pm so you can have a relaxing afternoon.


Being in Taupo means you can enjoy a hot soak, your choice of a wide range of places to enjoy dinner or a drink as you watch the sunset over the mountain you just climbed.


Are there One Way Shuttles from Taupo to Mangatepopo?

Yes! This service is used by those wanting to access the Tongariro Northern Circuit. It is important to talk to us before arranging this as there is a lot of logistics required with hut bookings, weather and timings. Please email us for advice before you book your huts.

Was a bit apprehensive about the gps coordinates for the meet up but google maps took us straight there, we were met by a friendly driver who talked us through the trip, and we were picked up and returned to our vehicle at the end of the hike. A fabulous day of great memories and aching muscles. We are both 60+, pretty fit but not massively so and did the walk in a relaxed manner in 7 1/2 hours. Definitely recommend taking poles if only for the scree field down from the top.
